The Schmitt Brothers

1951 International Champion Barbershop Quartet

Four Small Town Boys
Who Made it to the Big Time

The Schmitt Brothers from Two Rivers, Wisconsin, electrified audiences with their sublime harmonies. They skyrocketed to stardom after they won an international singing competition in 1951, putting their hometown on the map and sparking a 35-year career. They “traveled along” more than 2 million miles, “singing a song” in 3,000 performances on radio, TV and North America's top stages. Through it all, they ran local businesses, led civic organizations and raised 35 children among the four families. This is their amazing story.

Schmitt Brothers Stage

In Two Rivers Central Park, the city welcomed the the Schmitt Brothers home after they won the 1951 International SPEBSQSA Championship. More than 70 years later, the family, friends and fans of the quartet built the Schmitt Brothers Stage in the same park. Watch the video featured on WBAY TV's SMALL TOWNS to see the remarkable celebration that drew nearly 340 Schmitt family descendants from 19 states as well as 200 barbershoppers to honor their hometown heroes.
